Marilyn’s No. 5 Love Affair

As if Chanel needed to remind anyone that they are arguably the most iconic and influential fashion house ever, they’ve been on a heritage kick lately that takes us inside their nearly century-long reign.

A turning point in the history? Marilyn Monroe’s declaration of love for the signature scent, No. 5. In an interview, the ever-so-mysterious Monroe brilliantly answers the quite-illicit question, “What do you wear to bed?” with a giggle and, “Just a few drops of No. 5.” Even without the dedicated PR reps and intense media coaching that starlets receive these days, Miss Monroe understood how to flawlessly maintain her image. She knew how to reveal just enough and still leave them wanting more—a skill we all wish we could master (at least I do).

With this one off-hand comment, Monroe catapulted the fragrance into a new realm of popularity, where it continues to remain. She also revealed the lucrative potential of the designer/celebrity relationship, which is now a vital part of the equation for the success of any brand. Cheers, Miss Monroe, for continuing to inspire us to pursue a life of beauty, passion and enjoyment.

Tell Me ‘Bout It, Stud

Whether you love ’em or hate ’em, studs are having a major moment right now, and they aren’t going anywhere anytime soon. Once reserved for goth chicks and pit bulls, these days studs can be spotted everywhere from your local Trader Joe’s to A-list red carpet events.

As a pro-stud dresser, I’m pleased with the studded high-fashion offerings that designers are currently putting out. Studs automatically add that bad-ass vibe that’s necessary for certain days; they’re a way to say, “Don’t f*$# with me,” while flashing a confident smile and still minding your Ps & Qs.

In order to get studs right, it’s important to balance them with softer pieces. You want to walk the “approachable yet not-afraid-to-stand-up-for-yourself” line. I made this hard-edged studded jacket work by pairing it with a floaty chiffon-back tank and black harem pants.

It has a certain something to it, don’t you think?

With the ability to make or break an outfit, the importance of choosing the right jewelry can be compared to choosing the right undergarments. Sometimes you need lots of coverage and sometimes it’s better to take a minimalist approach. Either way, it’s essential.

Enter Katie Dean Jewelry. Described as “Jewelry for the Boho-City Gal,” Katie Dean’s collections offer playful, statement pieces that transform a look along with simple, delicate styles that are ideal for everyday wear. With her something-for-everyone designs and handmade, attention-to-detail quality, Katie Dean is making her mark as a go-to jewelrymaker for style-setters everywhere.

Beautiful worn alone and even better when stacked and layered in true boho spirit, each unique piece looks as if it carries its own story. I’ve been rocking my Forever and Always bracelets along with some other bangles — I love how they mix and match with just about everything, and I always get compliments. The Wishbone necklace has been an everyday staple since the day it arrived. It’s the kind of basic that you never have to take off and always adds a little something shiny to your look.

A few of my other favorite picks:

1. Destiny Awaits You Necklace

2. Forever and Always Bracelet Set of 8

3. Dare Devil Necklace

Take a look and see for yourself why Katie Dean should be on your fashion radar. I know it won’t be long before she’s a household name in the jewelry world and you can say you wore her first. Shop her need-to-own collection online at katiedeanjewelry.com and be sure to browse her lookbook for some styling inspiration.

I’ve met someone. He’s dark, handsome and different than most of the guys out there. What’s even better, is that he gets me. He knows how to make me happy. It’s like we were made for each other.

Don’t worry, the hubby knows what’s going on. We can’t keep secrets from one another. In fact, he’s the one who brought Diego home not long ago for my birthday…and Diego has faithfully been by my side ever since. He’s like the missing link that my wardrobe always wished for. His shape? Unique. His pebbled leather? Soft yet rugged. His rose-gold studs? Undeniably cool. He has that certain rockstar appeal that you know I find irresistible. Once I saw this bag, I knew I had to have it, and thanks to the hubby, now I do.

Thank you to Alexander Wang for dreaming up and creating my handbag soulmate. We’re going to be very happy together.

Dear Zara, One of Everything Please

Is it just me, or is everything at Zara #totesamaze right now? The last few times I’ve been in there, I find myself wishing they had shopping carts because my arms are hurting from carrying around all my fab finds. I’ve always been a fan of the European-born chain, but I’d maybe buy one or two things a season. This season is on another level.

For their Fall/Winter 2012 Collection, they have definitely stepped up their game in the design and production departments. There are so many things I want that I could easily spend an entire paycheck there in one afternoon. Their quality has also improved quite a bit, and while that has slightly driven up some of the price points, the product is so appealing that I don’t mind. It still gives you designer-worthy looks at a fraction of the price. So I say go ahead…indulge.

All Black & Blue

It’s finally starting to feel like fall in LA, and I couldn’t be happier. I tend to get much more creative with my looks when the temps drop a little since i can add more and more layers into the mix. Scarf and sweater weather is my happy place. Today I debuted a few pieces that have been patiently waiting in my closet for a few weeks — a black and navy cardigan from Kirna Zabête for Target and black plush leggings from rag & bone jean. I’m already obsessed with both and I know they’ll be staples in the upcoming months. The cardi is finished with leather buttons (probably faux since it was rather budget friendly) and a sheer woven panel down the spine to give it that extra detail that really makes it stand out. The leggings are extremely soft and super comfortable. They’re skinny enough to tuck into even my short fold-down boots which is a huge plus. By keeping the rest of my look all black, the navy contrast really pops which is what I love most about this look.

What do you think of it? Let me know in the comments!

Sweater: Kirna Zabête for Target. Pants: rag & bone / jean. Bag: Rebecca Minkoff. Boots: Luxury Rebel.
