I’ve met someone. He’s dark, handsome and different than most of the guys out there. What’s even better, is that he gets me. He knows how to make me happy. It’s like we were made for each other.

Don’t worry, the hubby knows what’s going on. We can’t keep secrets from one another. In fact, he’s the one who brought Diego home not long ago for my birthday…and Diego has faithfully been by my side ever since. He’s like the missing link that my wardrobe always wished for. His shape? Unique. His pebbled leather? Soft yet rugged. His rose-gold studs? Undeniably cool. He has that certain rockstar appeal that you know I find irresistible. Once I saw this bag, I knew I had to have it, and thanks to the hubby, now I do.

Thank you to Alexander Wang for dreaming up and creating my handbag soulmate. We’re going to be very happy together.

The fall-weather glimpse we got a few weeks ago was definitely short lived. This past week and weekend, LA saw temps back up in the 90s…much to my dismay. But, rather than sitting inside with the AC cranked up enough to warrant a sweater, blanket and cup of hot cocoa, I decided to bring out a bright summer-y dress for its (most-likely) final appearance of 2012.

With its easy, Grecian-style silhouette and asymmetrical lines, this dress is always a winner for sunny days and warm nights. However, it’s the strikingly rich color that really makes it stand out. Soaked in an almost-aqua hue that’s anything but bland, the shade of this frock projects optimism and confidence…making it an instant pick-me-up. A few Midas touches are all I need to finish this effortless ensemble; I chose a hammered cuff with draped fringe chains and glimmering gold flat sandals. The result? A carefree look that revels in the endless summer.

How would you style this dress? Let me know in the comments!

Is it just me, or is everything at Zara #totesamaze right now? The last few times I’ve been in there, I find myself wishing they had shopping carts because my arms are hurting from carrying around all my fab finds. I’ve always been a fan of the European-born chain, but I’d maybe buy one or two things a season. This season is on another level.

For their Fall/Winter 2012 Collection, they have definitely stepped up their game in the design and production departments. There are so many things I want that I could easily spend an entire paycheck there in one afternoon. Their quality has also improved quite a bit, and while that has slightly driven up some of the price points, the product is so appealing that I don’t mind. It still gives you designer-worthy looks at a fraction of the price. So I say go ahead…indulge.

Trend to Try: Nail Wraps

Whether you’re a devoted gel mani-wearer or a do-it-yourself polisher, expressive nails are a natural accessory to your style. When I have a fresh mani and pedi, I feel like I can take on the world. Plus, since nail color is a only a one or two week commitment, it’s the perfect outlet to experiment with trends.

Enter the latest of nail decorating-trends…nail wraps. More like stickers than polish, wraps are easy to apply and offer intricate designs that even the most talented polish-artist could never create. Leopard print? Houndstooth? Polka dots? All at your fingertips. Literally.

I was recently introduced to ncLA Nail Wraps and was such a fan that I wanted to spread the word. As someone who’s a challenged self-painter, the sticker application was fairly easy and left both of my hands looking flaunt-able. Plus, ncLA has designer-inspired patterns (Missoni, anyone?) that give you a truly chic look.

Step 1 – Prep:

I’m a firm believer that the trimming and filing are just as important as the color application, so that’s always the starting point. Starting with clean, naked nails, soak both hands in luke-warm water for a few minutes, then massage a tiny bit of oil or lotion into the nailbeds. Gently push back your cuticles with the tool and trim the excess skin with cuticle nippers. Cut your nails to the desired length then file to shape and smooth them out. Wash your hands with soap to remove the oil/lotion so the wraps can stick.

Step 2 – Wrap:

To apply the wraps, start with a clear coat of polish. Find the best size for each nail and smooth it on starting at the cuticle. I found I had to stretch the sides a bit to completely cover my nails, but once you get the hang of it, you can move pretty quickly. To remove the extra length, you simply file in a downwards motion and it comes right off. Once you’ve applied them all, seal with another clear coat and you’re good to go! The only dry-time is for the top coat…so fetch.

Step 3 – Flaunt:

Date Night Style

I’ve always been one who enjoys getting all dressed up when I have somewhere to go. Heading out to dinner to celebrate our first year anniversary, I decided on this lovely little black dress with sheer sleeves. Dotted tights, smokey eyes and my new favorite hairstyle, the sock bun, complete the look.

To get the smokey eye, I actually started with a bronze MAC pigment to get some extra dimension then layered a dark navy eyeshadow over it (also MAC). I prefer using navy instead of black since I have such fair skin. I used a full brush and smudged some extra on my bottom lashes, then lined them with a soft pencil. I exaggerated the top lids with a hint of cat eye and finished with two coats of trusty Maybelline mascara. Voilà!

Since this dress has a high neckline, I went with a messy yet polished up-do. For this, I must thank Hello Giggles’ tutorial, DIY Sock Bun. It looks tricky but is actually very simple and easy to pull off…even for someone who is not an up-do guru (like myself).

Hair, makeup, outfit and all, I was ready in less than 30 minutes and on my way to celebrate with my handsome husband. Cheers!

Dress: Ani Lee. Tights: Wolford. Shoes: Derek Lam.

All Black & Blue

It’s finally starting to feel like fall in LA, and I couldn’t be happier. I tend to get much more creative with my looks when the temps drop a little since i can add more and more layers into the mix. Scarf and sweater weather is my happy place. Today I debuted a few pieces that have been patiently waiting in my closet for a few weeks — a black and navy cardigan from Kirna Zabête for Target and black plush leggings from rag & bone jean. I’m already obsessed with both and I know they’ll be staples in the upcoming months. The cardi is finished with leather buttons (probably faux since it was rather budget friendly) and a sheer woven panel down the spine to give it that extra detail that really makes it stand out. The leggings are extremely soft and super comfortable. They’re skinny enough to tuck into even my short fold-down boots which is a huge plus. By keeping the rest of my look all black, the navy contrast really pops which is what I love most about this look.

What do you think of it? Let me know in the comments!

Sweater: Kirna Zabête for Target. Pants: rag & bone / jean. Bag: Rebecca Minkoff. Boots: Luxury Rebel.

I always say it’s better to be over-dressed than under-dressed. While a lace dress isn’t normally my go-to beach outfit, the intrigue of this unexpected look sets an impactful scene. I actually got this Diane von Furstenberg dress to wear to my wedding rehearsal and haven’t worn it since. When I saw it hanging in the corner of my closet, I decided to bring it out for some fun. Sometimes you just have to wear what you want, even if you might be slightly (or majorly) over-dressed. So, the next time you see a great dress and think, “I love it, but I have nowhere to wear it,” get it anyway and find a place to wear it. If that occasion never arises, wear it to the beach.

No matter where you stand on the Yves Saint Laurent v. Saint Laurent Paris side of things, one thing’s for sure…vintage connoisseurs are delighting in the fashion house’s decision to go retro with its re-branding. On Wednesday, September 26, renowned vintage retailer What Goes Around Comes Around Los Angeles teamed with nail art innovators ncLA to celebrate the revival of the Saint Laurent name.

Shoppers and admirers were welcomed into the charming yet impressive boutique to browse the well-curated selection of vintage Saint Laurent pieces and more.  Mini manis with YSL-inspired designs, petite cupcakes from Frosted Cupcakery and chic cocktails by Little Black Dress Vodka were enjoyed by all.  Pampering, sweets and drinks set against a backdrop of beautiful designer clothing made the recipe for a perfect evening where fashion proved once again that it’s able to take what once was old and make it new.
